Stay-Focused Conducts Twentieth Program!

The second program of summer 2010 brought six divers together, including four divers from last summer, Meredith Ausenbaugh, Sydney Bolen, Katie Bruckmann, and Jill Moore; Cheyenne Leonard, who was unable to join us last summer; and, Jackie Cimino, a Stay-Focused alumna who was the mentor on Cheyenne's first trip.

Leading the Program

Joining the group: Roger Muller, Founder/President of Stay-Focused; Trisha Yurochko, Stay-Focused Board member; JenFu Cheng, Stay-Focused medical advisor; and, Justin Strafuss, Stay-Focused alumnus and mentor for the group. Many thanks to our Stay-Focused Diving Instructors, Marty Banks, Chris Brandson, Tony Chisholm, and John Frederick who volunteer their time to ensure our dives are safe and fun!

Rotaract Blue Cayman Islands

On July 3rd, we joined Rotaract Blue for their Third Annual Open Arms Award Ceremony. I was invited to be the keynote speaker and the theme for the event was "Just Like You." I spoke about building awareness in Cayman for the potential of all persons with disabilities and pledged the support of Stay-Focused in doing so. It was a most enjoyable evening with lots of respect paid to those who are making a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities.

Responsibility Code

As part of each Reunion trip, we revisit our Responsibility Code, which outlines the rules of conduct we all agree to abide by during our time together, as well as the acronym DIVER, to which we assign words to each letter that reflect the collective opinion of the group. In both cases, the group chose to stick with their original lists.

1. Be on time
2. Be prepared
3. Be respectful of the diving instructors
4. Don't push yourself or your dive buddy
5. Be responsible for your dive gear
6. Stick to the dive plan!

D Driven
I Intense
V Versatile
E Epic
R Remarkable

This group is indeed driven, somewhat intense, versatile, epic (now I wonder who came up with that word choice?), and remarkable. Many thanks to Justin Strafuss for his dedication to task in mentoring the group - well done, Justin!

Goals for 2010

At the end of the trip, each member of the group sets a goal for the remainder of the year. The goal is meant to be realistic, achievable, and measurable. Here are the goals for 2010.

Cheyenne: Maintain 3 workouts per week until end of the summer. Marry Justin Bieber!

Jackie: Achieve a 3.5 GPA in her first semester of graduate school in Child Life.

Jill: Hit 1:01 in the 400 meter by August of '10.

Justin: Swim 20 laps by end of summer. End first semester with a 3.5 GPA (end of 2010).

Katie: Lift 105 lbs by end of summer.

Meredith: Run 2 miles in 20 minutes (or less) by end of October.

Sydney: Work for "A" standard in 200 meter. Marry Nick Jonas!

While I'm not certain about Cheyenne marrying Justin Bieber or Sydney marrying Nick Jonas, I wish you all good luck in achieving your goals!
