Stay-Focused's First Program

March 2004

Stay-Focused launches first program!

From all accounts, Stay-Focused’s first program this March in Grand Cayman, BWI, was a smashing success! The program participants were Jaclyn Lanzetti, 15, who has spina bifida, and, Mariya Redden, 14, who has polio.

Leading the program were Stay-Focused Founder/President Roger Muller; Program Manager and Dive Instructor Richard Smart; Dive Instructor Marty Banks; Board Member and Educational Advisor Mark Nevins, PhD; Medical Advisor Dr. JenFu Cheng, of Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, NJ; Trisha Yurochko, a coach and Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Marketing Coordinator; and Jaclyn’s dad, Anthony Lanzetti, a certified diver.

DIVER

As part of the Stay-Focused curriculum, divers assigned motivational words to the acronym, “DIVER.” Here is what they created:

D   Determination
I   Inspirational
V   Vision
E   Evolution
R   Respect

Jaclyn and Mariya were indeed determined to succeed – they knew it, as did everyone around them. Their courage and accomplishments were inspirational as well--and will inspire others. Stay-Focused is all about vision: the ability to envision success and pursue it. Everyone who participated in the program evolved (physically, intellectually, and spiritually) and, as a group, we forged a strong relationship of trust and respect.
