Stay-Focused's 24th Program

August 3 - 9 2011

Stay-Focused Conducts 24th Program!

This was our only program for first-time divers in summer 2011. Our group included six divers: Alexis Allen, Rose Hollermann; Evan Mathias; Clint Mooney; Louie Schaab: and, Marlon Shepard. Stay-Focused alumna, Jill Moore, was the mentor for the group. Stay-Focused alumnus and summer intern, Ryan Chalmers, also joined the group.

Leading the Program

Roger Muller, Founder/President of Stay-Focused; JenFu Cheng, medical advisor and photographer extraordinaire; and, Trisha Yurochko, a Stay-Focused Board member and experienced coach. And, as always, we were supported by a number of diving instructors who volunteer their time to make sure our dives are fun and, most importantly, safe. Special thanks to Tony Chisholm, Chris Brandson, Nick Lawton, and "Freddy" Frederick. Also, many thanks to our diving operations partner, Red Sail Sports, and Sunset Divers!

Responsibility Code

As part of each trip, we either create or revisit our Responsibility Code, which simply outlines the rules of conduct we all agree to abide by during our time together. Here's what the group agreed to:

1. Be respectful and friendly
2. Be punctual
3. Respect "thy" elders
4. Be respectful of the dive sites
5. Be appreciative of Roger & Tony, et al
6. Clean up after yourself
7. Look after your buddy
8. Work hard and have fun!
9. Be attentive
10. Don't be wasteful
11. Stay hydrated and safe
12. Take care of yourself

Overall, the group did an excellent job respecting the tenets of the Responsibility Code they crafted. Congratulations!

DIVER

On each trip, we assign words to each letter of the acronym DIVER that reflect the collective opinion of the group. Here are the words chosen by this group.

D  - Dream
I  - Imagination
V  - Vision
E  - Enlightening
R  - Righteous

This group appreciated the opportunity to come to Cayman and experience a dream come true. The group had lots of imagination (the Legacy Logs proved that), lots of vision as well, found the experience enlightening, and was righteous to boot (largely influenced Marlon's invocations)!

Goals for 2011 and Beyond!

Before leaving Cayman, each member of the group committed to achieving a personal goal that is realistic, achievable, and measurable. So, here they are in no particular order:

Evan: Varsity tennis - wants to letter.

Louie: All "As" for at least one marking period.

Clint ($): 3.2 GPA Fall semester into Spring at Longwood U.

Rose: "A" Honor Role for Fall semester; 3.6 GPA; London!

Alexis: Walk up 10 steps/stairs.

Marlon: Maintain 3.2 GPA. Research made into manuscript; Top 3 US Nationals every race.

Jill: Maintain 3.5 GPA. London!

So there you have it - on record. Good luck to each of you in achieving your goals!
